Tiburon covers much of the Tiburon Peninsula. The Town incorporated in 1964, and most of its single-family homes were built between 1950 and 1980, first on the flatter land and then further up into the hills.
Remodeling in Tiburon: what to know
Tiburon asks for some permits that other California cities may not, because of the peninsula’s slopes, geology and weather, and to protect views and privacy. Any outside change that needs a building permit also goes through the Town’s design review, and so do re-siding, skylights, a deck more than 36 inches above the ground, and fences or walls taller than 42 inches.
Building permit applications go to the Town’s Building Division by email. The Town also asks every construction or demolition project to recycle or reuse at least 90 percent of its debris, so we plan the sorting and hauling from day one.
Before a home in Tiburon is sold, the owner must get a Residential Building Report from the Town. Any life-safety corrections it lists must be made within 30 days of the close of escrow, and the Town suggests booking the report as soon as the home is listed.
In Tiburon we remodeled the kitchen, a bathroom and the floors of one house, and redid a bathroom in another with a double vanity and a glass shower.

The project involved removing and replacing cabinets, counters, backsplash, appliances, painting, plumbing, windows and refinishing floors with more contemporary materials. John is very organized and efficient and is a great communicator. Happily, his team finished the project in 3 months, with little to no lags in between.
